Amplifying innovation in a sound way

Abzu is a company that applies new methods and technology to drive innovations for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. With a team of brilliant scientists and researchers, Abzu operates in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and creativity are essential. This is definitely the case in their Danish based office situated in a historic building in the old industrial harbour area in the northern part of Copenhagen.

However, the open plan office space initially designed to foster collaboration and creativity  also presented significant acoustic challenges. High ceilings, hard surfaces, and minimal sound-absorbing elements resulted in poor acoustics especially from sound energy bouncing off the walls. This meant a constant struggle for Abzu employees to concentrate and communicate effectively due to the distracting noise levels and reverberation in the open office space and in the meeting rooms. Conversations were often drowned out by nearby phone calls, discussions, and the constant hum of office equipment.

“Modern office spaces are known for their collaborative nature, but they often suffer from poor acoustics. These spaces are characterised by a lack of physical barriers and sound-absorbing materials, leading to excessive reverberation and the amplification of noise” explains Steffen Spangmose, acoustical engineer at AKUART.

Recognizing the need for a comprehensive sound absorbing solution, Abzu turned to AKUART for acoustic treatment. By installing sound absorbing wall panels strategically throughout the office space, Abzu experienced a significant transformation that seamlessly integrates into the office’s colourful aesthetics, offering an effective yet playful appearance while demonstrating the company’s commitment to the well-being of its employees.
