Krystalhuset, formerly the headquarters of DFDS, has undergone a stunning transformation into a dynamic multi-tenant space where art and acoustics harmonise. Renovated by DEAS’ Space Planning Team, headed by Lead Architect Mie Møller, the design focused on modernising the building to meet the flexible demands of future workspaces, while maintaining a strong artistic identity. Property owner Sampension aimed to create a flexible, sustainable environment with shared areas, promoting green and digital solutions to activate as much space as possible.
A key feature of Krystalhuset is the inclusion of communal areas like the bistro and lounge spaces, designed to encourage informal meetings and natural networking opportunities between tenants. Throughout the project, DEAS ensured that operational and acoustic considerations were met, and this is where Akuart played a critical role in providing solutions that balanced the acoustic requirements with the artistic vision.
“At Akuart, we believe that art and acoustics should not just coexist but thrive together. The transformation of Krystalhuset showcases how tailored solutions can enhance both the aesthetic and acoustic experience, creating spaces that truly inspire.”
– Casper Sparsø, Creative Director at AKUART
A stunning 30-metre-high glass installation by artist Mette Colberg graces the entrance of Krystal House, serving as a breathtaking focal point for the building. Known for her innovative work with glass and photography, Colberg’s piece inspired the cohesive design of the bistro. Her unique technique—using custom camera lenses to capture the interplay of light and colour—became the driving force behind the aesthetic choices in the dining area. To support both the acoustic needs and artistic aesthetic of the bistro, Akuart provided Supersonic Wall Panels in custom sizes featuring Mette Colberg’s artwork named “Lightwave”. The Accent Blue frame panels were tailored to meet the acoustic specifications, the artistic vision and ensure an overall harmonious connection with the overall design of the space.
The result is a dining area where bespoke acoustic solutions and artistic expression come together effortlessly. The tailored SS50 Wall Panels featuring Mette Colberg’s custom artwork create a unique and inviting atmosphere, reflecting a commitment to both aesthetic beauty and optimal acoustic performance. Spaces like the bistro demonstrate how bespoke solutions can inspire and engage, making Krystalhuset not just a place to work, but a place to connect and create.
