Nordøst Amager School is organised as a layered learning environment. Public and high-activity functions are concentrated in the lower levels, while the primary school levels occupy the upper floors in close connection to shared leisure spaces and outdoor terraces. At the centre, a large atrium acts as the school’s main circulation spine, defined by constant movement and interaction across age groups.

This spatial organisation creates a high-activity environment by design. The primary school levels are conceived for movement, play, and informal interaction, reflected in elements such as free-hanging nets and open spatial connections. Rather than minimising activity, the architecture encourages it. This places specific demands on acoustics, where sound must be controlled without limiting the energy and openness of the space.

“We aimed to preserve the architectural clarity of the school while strengthening its acoustic performance. The panels integrate quietly into the space, supporting informal learning and play without dominating the design language.”

– Erling Frederichsen, Project Manager at AKUART

Supersonic Wall Panels are installed within the primary school levels as part of this balance. Mounted directly to the wall and tested to ISO 354, the system delivers Class A absorption at source, reducing reverberation and preventing sound from building up or transferring from adjacent high-activity spaces.

The panels are dimensioned to the architecture. Custom formats and large-scale surfaces align with walls and volumes, integrating acoustic performance into the spatial rhythm. A curated Colours & Patterns palette, combined with custom graphics, introduces orientation and identity. Illustrative elements act as spatial anchors, supporting navigation and engagement for younger students.

The result is a stable acoustic environment within a dynamic building. Speech remains clear, noise levels are controlled, and spaces support focused learning without disconnecting from the openness of the overall architecture. Durable, washable textile surfaces and a mechanically assembled construction ensure long-term performance in a setting defined by daily use.
