Københavns Erhvervs Akademi (KEA), a vibrant educational institution in the heart of Copenhagen, faced a unique challenge: creating a balanced acoustic environment in a high-traffic space. With students and staff constantly on the move and open communal areas where noise levels can quickly escalate, KEA needed a solution to foster a quieter, more focused atmosphere without losing the building’s dynamic energy.
To meet KEA’s acoustic needs, Akuart introduced In Your Room, a flexible, modular room-in-room system designed specifically for dynamic learning environments where flexibility and acoustic functionality are essential. The system allows for diverse spaces suited to different work activities, from collaborative zones to quiet areas for focused work.
This adaptable solution was installed in key areas, including the library—an open, frequently busy space where sound control is essential to support study and concentration—and the teachers’ lounge, where a calm environment is necessary for preparation, discussion, and relaxation amidst the building’s active flow.
In addition, Akuart strategically integrated Supersonic screens and panels throughout the building. These elements work together to enhance speech intelligibility and minimise noise in spaces like the student communal areas, where students gather informally to socialise and collaborate, and the teachers’ offices, which require quieter, more controlled acoustics for work and meetings.
Akuart’s approach centred on creating balance: reducing noise levels while keeping the spaces open and welcoming. The modular nature of the In Your Room system allowed it to integrate seamlessly with KEA’s architecture, ensuring that aesthetic and functional needs were met simultaneously.
