At Højdevangens Skole in Amager, a multifunctional learning space has been reimagined through the integration of large-format acoustic panels, merging sound control with narrative-driven design. The installation illustrates how acoustic solutions can move beyond their technical role to become meaningful elements of both spatial and educational expression.

Developed in collaboration with visual artist Line Jensen, the panels interpret the dramatic story of King Christian II and his complex relationship with Sigbrit Willoms and her daughter Dyveke. Far from being merely decorative, the hand-drawn compositions serve as tactile storytelling devices, embedding fragments of Danish history directly into the architectural framework.

“We wanted to create more than calm — we wanted to create connection. The storytelling brings the panels to life and invites kids to explore the space in their own way.”
– Erling Frederichsen, Project Manager at AKUART
The result is a hybrid environment, part learning space, part gallery, where colour, texture, and typography animate the walls and invite engagement. As a visual and acoustic landscape, the room supports focus and concentration while cultivating an atmosphere of curiosity and exploration.

This project reflects a growing shift in educational design, with a focus on spaces that perform acoustically while resonating culturally and emotionally. At Højdevangens Skole, acoustic design becomes a narrative gesture that reinforces the values of reflection, imagination, and spatial awareness in the daily learning experience.
