Introducing 100% recycled aluminium for the SS50 Wall Panel

The SS50 Wall Panel 100R is the outcome of a strategic partnership with Hydro, incorporating Circal 100R into the SS50 Wall Panel product range. Circal 100R is a groundbreaking 100% recycled aluminium sourced from post-consumer scrap. This pioneering material, obtained from items such as bicycle frames, chair legs, window and picture frames, shower enclosures, and garage doors, signifies a significant advancement towards a circular economy.
“We are thrilled to partner with Hydro in this groundbreaking endeavour. By incorporating 100% recycled aluminium into our SS50 Wall Panel product range, we are not only elevating the standards of sustainability in our industry but also empowering our customers to make environmentally conscious choices without compromising on quality or design.”

– Steffen Spangmose, Head of Design and Innovation at AKUART

The Process

Utilising cutting-edge technology, Hydro’s recycling plants meticulously shred, sort, and purify scrap to create Circal 100R. Through precise processes, contaminants like paint, coating, oil, plastic, iron, minerals, and organic compounds are efficiently eliminated, ensuring top-notch purity and quality. The outcome is a material with performance and durability comparable to new aluminium but requiring only 5% of the energy used in primary production.

100R

The carbon footprint of Hydro CIRCAL 100R is below 0.5 kg CO2e / kg aluminium, a staggering 97% lower than the global primary average. This achievement underscores the transformative impact of sustainable practices in the manufacturing sector.

CO2 Footprint by Origins

Primary Global Average

18.0 CO2e / kg

Primary EU Average

6.7 CO2e / kg

Circal 75R – 75% Post Consumer

2.3 CO2e / kg

To celebrate the introduction of The SS50 Wall Panel 100R, we’ve meticulously redesigned the SS50 frame profile. Through careful engineering and innovation, we’ve succeeded in reducing the amount of aluminium required for the frame profile by an impressive 22%. By optimising the design of the frame profile, we’re able to minimise material usage without compromising on quality or structural integrity.
